Your Guide To Keeping Fit In Ferndown
The Destinations, Gyms, and Trainers To Help You Keep Active And Healthy in Ferndown, Dorset.
Ferndown is a great place to get active. It’s the home of Dorset Fit for a start! But seriously, whether you’re looking for incredible running trails, Saturday footie, pumping iron in the gym, or high street swimming, there’s something for everyone.
To the Mum’s – there are also loads of choices if you’d like to get active with your little ones.
I’ll keep this article updated, so if I’ve missed something, just drop me a message.
Highlights
For runners
We’re just around the corner from a stunning section of the Castleman Trail. For those who don’t know, it’s a flat trail that stretches from Ringwood to Poole. Get your trail shoes on and get out there.
For Cyclists
If you don’t fancy the gravel of the Castleman, you’ve got plenty of options. Ferndown is a perfect start or finishing point for rides into the New Forest or a day ride down to the Purbecks. It’s got plenty of cafes with outdoor seating to get your caffeine and pastry fix in.
For Class Addicts
At Dorset Fit, we’re incredibly proud to run a group women-only fitness session every Tuesday from the Regency Rooms in King George V Playing Fields. If you’re not of the fairer sex then there’s always a good schedule of classes going on at the Ferndown Leisure Centre.
For Swimmers
If it’s a bit too brisk to head down to the beach, get your goggles on, and dive into the pool at the Ferndown Leisure Centre. There’s a timetable full of different sessions, from laners to learners – we love having this on our doorstep.
For Skaters
Newsflash: Skating’s not just for the troubled youth these days. It’s a fab way to keep fit, have fun, and rekindle your teenage pop-punk phase. The skateparks in Ferndown are friendly and well-equipped for all abilities. You can find one in the King George Playing Fields and another in West Moors.
For Gym Bunnies
If your idea of fun involves squat racks and plentiful plates you’re in the right place. In Ferndown, you have a choice of Anytime Fitness or the Ferndown Leisure Centre. If they’re not quite what you’re looking for, then why not head further afield to BHLive in Pelhams or David Lloyd in Ringwood – both are around 15-minute drive from Ferndown.
For the Yogi’s
Ferndown’s a small community, but there are several options for those looking to limber up and clear their minds with Yoga. Isobel Brooks Yoga, Yogaflexion and Mindful Earth offer a range of online, in-person, and inspiring Yoga retreats.
For the Racket Sports Enthusiasts
You’re spoilt for choice. We love the Tennis Courts in King George V Playing Fields – there’s a tremendous app-based booking system, and the courts are well maintained.
Squash generally seems to be in decline – but there are good bookable courts in Ferndown Leisure Centre. I still love the game. It’s excellent for explosive performance and hand-eye coordination.
